Counterpoint Vocal Ensemble

Founded by Robert De Cormier in 2000, COUNTERPOINT is dedicated to performing choral chamber music of diverse cultures with an emphasis on rarely performed works, unique arrangements, and the work of contemporary composers. Counterpoint is also committed to fostering music education in schools and colleges through workshops and concerts with and for students and teachers, in order to further their appreciation and understanding of choral music and to enhance their ability to perform it. After Counterpoint’s debut, Jim Lowe, writing in the Vermont Times-Argus, described them as “a cohesive ensemble, able to perform varied repertoire with style and understanding…a joy to hear.” The twelve-member professional ensemble has enjoyed increasing success in recent years, presenting concerts throughout the Northeast and Midwest. The group attracted the attention of Vermont Public Radio and for five years National Public Radio has broadcast “A Vermont Christmas with Counterpoint” to more than one hundred affiliates nationwide. The group has recorded seven CDs with Albany Records, and has been in residence at Saint Michael’s College since 2007.
